By SARBAN SINGH
KUALA PILAH: Rantau assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan was on Wednesday sworn in as Mentri Besar before the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Ja’afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman at Istana Besar Sri Menanti.
Mohamad, who would be Mentri Besar for the second term, in his first press conference later said he would not deprive people in constituencies which fell to the Opposition by stopping aid for development and infrastructure projects.
“First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the Yang DiPertuan Besar for giving his consent for my appointment.
“Since this appointment comes with a lot of responsibilities, I would execute my duties to my best ability and ensure that the administration of the state would continue to be carried out efficiently,” said the 52-year-old Mohamad.
Also present were the Tunku Ampuan Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Najihah Tunku Besar Burhanuddin, Mohamad’s wife Datin Seri Raja Salbiah Tunku Nujumuddin and state secretray Datuk Norzam Mohd Nor.
Mohamad signed his appointment letter before Tuanku Ja’afar witnessed by High Court judge Datuk Azhar Ma’ah and Syariah Court judge Datuk Husin Harun.
In Saturday’s polls, Barisan won 21 of the 36 state seats. The DAP won 10 followed by PKR with four and PAS with one.
Before the dissolution of the state assembly on Feb 13, there was only one wakil rakyat from the Opposition.
“I will also make sure the state government’s agenda for development would continue to benefit all races. But I must admit there would be more challenges as the composition of the state assembly has changed quite significantly.
“There would surely be differences in opinions and ideologies but this would not derail efforts to improve the state,” he said.
