Tok Mat The genuine Leader
By SARBAN SINGH
SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamad Hasan will relinquish his posts in two sports bodies in the state by the end of this year.
Mohamad is president of the state football and hockey associations.
He said although there was no directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to all mentris besar and chief ministers to give up their positions in sports organisations, he wished to devote more time to develop the state.
"I could relinquish my positions today if I wished to but I do not want to leave these associations in a spot.
"I feel any handing over should be done in a proper manner to enable the bodies to plan their activities accordingly," he said.
Mohamad said he had notified the councils of both associations of his desire to step down. However, both bodies have appealed to the Mentri Besar to stay on.
"We will have to amend the constitutions of both sports bodies which now state that their president has to be the Mentri Besar," he said.
Mohamad said he had no problems giving up the posts as he had in May given up his post as president of Pesaka (Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan Malaysia).
He also invited people who felt they could contribute effectively to the running of the sport to offer themselves for the positions.
