Umno to focus on 21 crucial seats in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad has asked the party here to focus on 21 crucial seats in Kelantan.
These are seats where the winning majority is less than 1,000 votes.
The Barisan Nasional, through Umno, has one seat less than PAS in the 45-seat state assembly and Radzi wants the party to focus on the crucial seats.
He said the mood in Kelantan indicated that the voters want a change after 17 years under PAS.
“Kelantan is the last stronghold for PAS.
“It will resort to various means to hang on to power,” he told reporters after meeting state Umno polling directors here Saturday.
He assured party members that it has the backing of the top leadership to help the Barisan regain control of Kelantan.
Mohd Radzi said 20,000 Umno members registered as voters in the first three months of the year, adding that there were 20,000 more eligible voters who have yet to register.
He said 450,000 Umno members have yet to register as voters nationwide.

Dato' Seri Utama Mohamad bin Haji Hasan (Lahir 2 Mei 1956), merupakan Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan.
Beliau dilahirkan di Kampung Kundur Hilir, Rembau, Negeri Sembilan. Bersekolah di Rantau dan Sekolah Menengah Tengku Durah, Seremban, melanjutkan pelajaran ke Universiti Malaya pada tahun 1977. Memulakan kerjayanya sebagai Pelatih Bank Negara Malaysia, beliau kemudiannya berpindah tugas ke beberapa buah bank tempatan termasuk Pengurus Bank Bumiputera London. Jawatan terakhirnya di sektor swasta ialah sebagai Pengarah Urusan Cycle and Carriage (1994-2004)
Memenangi pilihanraya kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri Rantau, Dato' Mohamad mengangkat sumpah menjadi Menteri Besar Negeri Sembilan pada 25 Mac 2004. Ketua UMNO Bahagian Rembau, beliau juga adalah Ahli Majlis Kerja Tertinggi UMNO Malaysia.
